Write a justification for capital purchase (1,000-1,200 words) to your vice president as to why the purchase would be a good investment for the hospital. Include a one-page executive summary for your proposal. The paper should include the operating costs you took into consideration, what facility considerations are involved regarding this new piece of equipment, and future benefits to the organization of this piece of equipment.

In the assignment this week you will be placing yourself in the role of a departmental manager who is seeking to justify the purchase of a large capital item. Here is some help for the assignment:-

Write a justification for capital purchase (1,000-1,200 words) to your vice president as to why the purchase would be a good investment for the hospital.

Do not write the justification with the personal we and I, but rather write on behalf of the department. Use this department instead of “we and I”. Since in the real world of a health care organization, you are writing the justification for the department.

Include a one-page executive summary for your proposal.

This provides the background on the equipment and why it is needed. You can find this background at a website for a company that provides large equipment for a hospital. For example, Siemens, and here is there link: –

The paper should include the operating costs you took into consideration, what facility considerations are involved regarding this new piece of equipment, and future benefits to the organization of this piece of equipment.

In this section, what I am looking for is why this equipment is needed. For example, the old equipment is outdated, or in need of repair. It may be causing concerns with quality of care. So, the initial outlay of costs may be expensive, but if services are improved and the number of patients are seen over the next few years, the initial cost might be recouped. You may be able to find out what the return of investment is from the website information, or if you are working for a hospital, the supply department may know. I am more looking for your narrative than actual numbers. Consider other costs like maintenance, repair, supplies, space, staffing and education and training that will need to be factored into your operating costs in your justification to the Vice President.

The key with this paper is that you understand that in health care large purchases are a necessity and are linked to programs, services and quality of care. Any new services will inevitably require new equipment, which could be a combination of clinical equipment and administrative equipment. Replacement equipment is also very important, so that quality and safety is maintained always. However, each of these items need to be planned for and requested.
